Event: Entrepreneur Night

Remember when you were younger, you had that dream about being an inventor, starting a clothing company, and opening up the coolest amusement park? Why did you let go of those dreams? Too crazy, wild, or time-consuming? Too costly? Or was it just fear holding you back?

Now is the time to start dreaming again. We know you have those amazing goals and business ideas, but you’re just unsure of where to start. This is where ALPFA comes in. We’re hosting our very own Entrepreneur Night, open to any and all PSU students. Have a friend with a fantastic idea, but keeps holding herself back because she doesn’t have any funding to begin? Drag her along. We’re devoting the night to helping students START on those crazy amazing ideas. We’re answering your questions, giving plenty of advice, and bringing in some of the coolest young entrepreneurs in the area to help guide you.

Some of our guest speakers include Kenneth “Cat Daddy” Pogson, one of the founders of Voodoo Doughnut. You heard that right. The creator of the maple bacon bar will be in our midst, sharing his story of how he and his business partner started their world renowned company from the ground up, despite never having made doughnuts before. Our other guest speaker, Marcus Harvey, is the owner and operator of the @Portland Instagram, boasting over 170k followers and growing. He leveraged this account and started a clothing company, Portland Gear, which features shirts, jackets, hats, bottle openers, and more… all of which can be purchased online or from the wicked, Portland-branded VW van you might see driving around downtown.

We’ll have plenty of food, drinks, and free gear to pass out. Make sure you RSVP for a chance to win a sweet gift from us! RSVP is not required, but encouraged.

Postponed: Biggest Gainer Financial Series

The word is out – ALPFA, BAP, and the FMA have teamed up to bring you a one-of-a-kind financial series: The Biggest Gainer.

Over the next few months, we will be hosting workshops with various themes like student loans, credit cards, taxes, and insurance, among others. These workshops will be presented by professionals that have experience advising people and companies about their finances from firms like the Motley Fool and NPR, so you are guaranteed to learn something new during each session. And this is totally FREE.

But here’s the best part; as the workshops go on, there will be a competition where a team of 4 that improves their combined credit scores the most will win a $1,000 scholarship that can be used during Summer or Fall term. During the kick off session, we will use Credit Karma to look up your credit score and you will form teams of 4 for the competition. There will be free pizza and John Maxfield from the Motley Fool will be speaking on the importance of financial literacy. After the kickoff event, there will be a total of 5 workshops that will take place either on Tuesday or Thursday evening from 6 to 8pm.

If you’re interested in keeping up to date or creating a team prior to the event, like us on Facebook, follow us on Twitter, and check in on the website.
